13 & 14 months

New things: Walking, Walking, Walking!!!! At 1 year Lillie was taking steps on her own but there weren’t many unassisted ones in a row. On July 4^th she suddenly decided that she wanted to start walking across the room.  Suddenly she was everywhere.  In just a few weeks she was practically running all over the house.  She still moves with her legs about shoulder width apart and usually with her arms balanced in of her but by-golly she is speedy. In the past week she’s even started to walk backwards and sidestepping to get away when playing her little “chase me” games.

She discovered the pool in the last 2 months.  The first time she went in she wasn’t a huge fan initially but as soon as she had a chance to splash around like she does in the tub she LOVED it.  We were in the pool at least once a week (and sometimes almost daily as long as the weather was good). She didn’t love the beach but a pool was great fun.

She also loves just being outside visiting the sheep and chicken or riding in the wagon or car-car.  When it’s too hot hanging out in the new playroom is a nice way to cool off and she loves pushing stuff around in her doll stroller down there.



Talking: Lillie is talking up a storm.  She gets at least 1 new recognizable word a week and sometimes many more than that.   

Nana = nana

Bam-ah = Grandma and grandpa (they both have the same name right now … but I think Grandpa might be verging on a Bam-pah)

Maga = Auntie Meghan

Carcar = Her little red push car

Up up = up (often said while reaching her arms up)

Yep = yes

Bum-a (she kinda sounds like an unhappy New Englander saying bummer)– Her bum, We always say that she needs to sit down on her bum so now you can just say “down” and she will say bum while she sits down.  Sometimes she will just wander into the kitchen and say “bum” while she sits down (because she knows that’s where the food is). Sometimes she will even do it if I happen to have a piece of food or bag of chips regardless of what room we’re in (esp at dinner time when I’m carrying food into the kitchen to cook).

There are a couple of words that she doesn’t say out loud yet but she has learned to sign.  She started making a sign for “more” at the beginning of August.  It’s not exactly the traditional sign but she opens her left hand and points to the center of it with her right pointer finger.  Once she mastered the “more” sign we started showing her the sign for “please” and she picked that up really quickly.  Now she will use one or the other often, esp during meal times when we aren’t placing food on her tray fast enough.  She isn’t quite doing (recognizable) 2 word phrases yet but she does seem pretty close sometimes.

There are tons of other words that she doesn’t say yet but she definitely recognizes.  I am completely amazed every day by the directions I can give her and she will do them.  We can tell her to go find a certain toy and she’ll walk away to go pick it up. 

Teeth: 8!!! She has 4 on the top & 4 on the bottom.

Sleeping:  Still sleeping through the night most of the time. She does occasionally talk in her sleep which makes us think she’s awake but she’s not. Her most recognizable sleep word is “mama”, everything else is undecipherable. She is still taking 2 naps during the day but will possibly drop one in the next few months because every couple of days she decides to be “Lillie no-nap”.  When she doesn’t sleep we still try to give her at least 30+ minutes of rest time hanging out in her crib with a book or stuffed animal.  She will lay there and sing along to her sleep sheep for quite awhile.

 She sleeps in the weirdest positions sometimes!

Eating new foods: We’ve used up all the baby food and Lillie quickly transitioned to simply eating whatever we are eating. Her favorites are strawberries and blueberries and French fries.  It’s gotten to the point that we hide those foods until she is mostly done eating because she won’t eat anything else if she sees them.

Drinking: She LOVES her milk.  She actually starts clapping when she sees her bottle. We’ve tried milk in a cup a few times but she still doesn’t want to drink it out of anything other than her bottle. She also loves her water and can drink like a champ when she wants to.  We haven’t tried many juices and even when we do she hasn’t been interested … it’s all milk and water for her.
