Saturday in the Park with George

We were supposed to spend last Saturday in Boston with my aunts and uncles.  Sadly, they had to cancel due to illness.  We had also been looking forward to seeing Megs too so we decided to head in to the city anyway so we could spend time with her.

We headed to Boston Common first. It seems to have become our "go to" spot. We had made it all the way into the city without hitting any traffic only to find a full parking garage when we arrived.  One extra lap around the Public Garden and problem solved.  When we emerged from the new garage and arrived at the Common we were greeted by a huge L.L Bean boot truck!

We wandered (albeit aimlessly) for a few minutes before we finally aimed ourselves in the direction of the Garden for a picnic.  Lillie has been fascinated by picnics since Christmas when she was given a purple talking picnic basket. Over the past few months we've had a few "picnics" on the kitchen floor, on a blanket in the living room at snack time, and even a few on our front porch.  We thought she would get a kick out of having a REAL picnic in the park.

While picnicking we saw police on horseback a few times.  Lillie was excited to see the horsey (although not so excited when we passed one on the sidewalk on the way out and she realized just how big it really was.)

We were in prime viewing location of the "Make Way for Ducklings" statues.  As per usual the ducks were always surrounded by a crowd of people.  We waited until the crowd died down a little bit and then took Lil over to see them.  She was VERY excited about the ducks (who we found dressed in superhero capes and purple masks).  She wanted to climb on the momma duck but kept slipping off the back.

She was much happier sitting on the baby ducks.

Then she grabbed Megs by the leg and dragged her over and forced her to sit on a duck ... no really she did.

Then we took a little stroll along a small portion of the Freedom Trail.

We made it as far as Sweet to buy some yummy dessert.  Lillie had such a tought time making up her mind ... ha ... who am I kidding.  I was the one holding everyone up.  We got a lemon, cherry cheesecake, dark chocolate, and mint chocolate.  All very nummy.  I was very tempted by the flourless chocolate cupcake and may have to try it on my next trip.

Lillie got her very own mini cupcake.  She doesn't look excited at all .....

It wasn't the day we had originally planned and we really wish that we could have seen everyone but we still had a great day.
