New things: She can open the
back door in her room. This is
terrifying to us. We try to keep it
locked when we are just at the house but since it is the only way to the stairs
to the basement and the easiest way to Grandma and Pop-pop’s house it is
occasionally not locked. Oh is it scary
to hear the door latch and see it wide open.
Thankfully we’ve managed to catch her on the few times it has happened
but new plans are in development to remedy this situation.
She
still hates getting shots. She was
practically beside herself when she got to the dr’s office earlier this month. She hates shots so much she cried through
most of our visit. I can’t wait until
the shots and finger pricks stop. I’d
like for these trips to not be so emotional for her. Thankfully, I think we are done with shots
for a little while.
She’s
in love with her grandparents (not such a new thing). She loves spending time with Grandma and
Pop-pop next door and likes to stop by even on the days she doesn’t already spend
with them. She had a great time visiting
with Nana and Grandpa (Bampa) over Christmas.
She kept taking grandpa’s extra cane and wandering around the house with
it to be just like him. Now that we’re
home every time she picks up something that resembles a phone she puts it up to
her ear saying “Bampa, Bampa” or “Nana, Callie” Clearly a phone call to
Virginia is on the agenda soon.
Also
not terribly new … she loves taking baths.
She will run to the bathroom as soon as she hears the water running. She
likes to pick out her own bath toys and toss them in. She loves to splash and splash and
splash. She has recently figured out how
to fill her bath toys on her own and squirt them.
New Words: I’m not sure I can
even write the list of all her new words this time. She has had such an
explosion of words. We have had to start
being careful what we say around her because you never know when she is going
to repeat something we have said. She
often repeats the last word we’ve said. She has lots of new word endings. She has the ee sound now and can say Mickey,
Minnie, Mommy, and Daddy.
Dinner,
broccoli, better, kiss, Bampa/ grampa, Bear, Manny, Cup, Pickies (pictures),
phone, Thomas, Percy, choo choo, track, Bug (and Buggie … her nicknames), Goofy
(sounds more like Goopy), Snoopy, Brown (Charlie Brown), Woody (Woodstock),
glasses, pillow, blankie, coat, jacket, monkey, zoo, open, sorry, please, thank
you, better, good (gut), hot, cool, clean, bath, bib, table, home.
She
can say her own name and use pronouns!
She knows me, you, I and it.
She’ll say “I Lillie, you Mommy”
She
talks about direction:
on, in, under, over, behind, up, down.
She’s
starting to give directions in short phrases: eat it, read it, close it, hang it,
cook it, turn it, hat on, sit couch, get it, open it (sounds more like Opie …
think it’s a combo of open and please), take it, zip it, have it, pull it, push
it, drink it, bonky owwie … kiss it.
She’s
also starting to tell stories. It often helps to already know the
story so you can put it all together but she’ll talk about characters from the
books she’s been reading. She’ll tell
about something that happened during the day Like the day that she fell and got
a boo-boo and Gramma had to kiss it to make it better.

(like a true New Englander), Crack-ah, Ginga, Mook (nice combo of milk and
moo), Hi, Hi chair, Ba-ba, Riss, Liam (started as Miam), Jen, Twain, Happy,
Mickey, Minnie, Fiss (fish), Cookie, Nay, Floor, Rachel, Paul, Dan, no
Teeth: 12!!! Still just 12, we think. She has continued to go through a few fussy/drooley spells recently so there is the possibility of more but nothing has broken through yet. She is great about brushing her teeth though. We still just use water on her tooth brush but when she sees us brushing our teeth she’ll run into the bathroom yelling “Teeth! Teeth!” so we sit her on the counter top and she’ll brush away while we do.
Sleeping: She takes 1
nap a day. She almost always goes down
for a nap with a doll. At bedtime she
now looks for Ginger, her giraffe from Uncle Paul and Aunt Rachel and Manga the
penguin. She will cry for both of them
until we get them and then she giggles and smiles. On our
trip to Virginia for Christmas we stopped a hotel mid-way and accidentally left
Manga in the truck … Thank goodness Manga was just in the truck so it was an
easy fix. I don’t want to know what
would have happened if we couldn’t just run downstairs to get him. She was screaming like crazy. We have been trying to encourage her to sleep
with other animals on occasion too so we don’t end up with instances like that
often. Somedays it works and somedays it
doesn’t
Eating: She eats about
half of her food with her fingers and half with her fork. Using a spoon is still messier because she
tends to flip it over (like she does with a fork) and all the food slips off.
Drinking: We’ve “almost”
officially retired the bottle. Wow.
That’s kind of a weird feeling.
She’s been using cups for a long time but she still had a bottle of milk
in the morning and one at night. She was
holding it herself and everything but after talking with her Dr. about it we
decided that it was time to start moving away from that. She was really resistant to drinking milk out
of anything other than a bottle at first.
We’re slowly transitioning her to using a cup for it. We started by dropping the morning bottle and
still giving her one in the evening. She will only drink it at the table during
a meal now. She just won’t take it any
other way. Unfortunately her milk intake
has been lower lately but she still has plenty of calcium with her cheese,
yogurt, and ice cream so we aren’t too worried. Hopefully, she continues to
drink more and more.
